Beginning with the New Year and moving on through the year, virtually every month offers opportunities for outreach.
We practice what is known as servant evangelism. Servant evangelism wins the heart before it confronts the mind. A small act of kindness nudges a person closer to God, often in a profound way as it bypasses one's mental defenses. The average Christ-follower is willing to hand a stranger a can of cold soda on a hot day (low risk). The high grace is seen in the typical reaction. “Oh, thank you!” “This is so nice!” “I cannot believe this is for free!” And, “Why are you doing this?” Kindness builds the bridge for the person to receive a touch of love from God. It’s simple, practical, effective, inexpensive and fun!
Often the word evangelism brings to mind a dynamic person speaking to large crowds about Jesus and giving an invitation for salvation. Some evangelists do speak to large, public crowds, but the truth is there are many approaches to evangelism and many different strategies. Servant evangelism is sharing God’s love by simply serving others in practical ways without asking for or expecting anything in return. Each quarter our outreach directors Ernest & Lois Stukes meet with a committee to plan servant evangelism events that will impact others for Christ.

Ernest and Lois come to Fourth with extensive background in hospitality and outreach ministries. They served with the Krells for five years as the outreach directors in Olympia, Washington. During this time, 13,000 seeds were planted through servant evangelism. Prior to this they were at Church for All Nations in Tacoma, Washington serving in the hospitality ministry. In 2014, in a step of faith, the Stukes were led to Spokane to develop the outreach ministry at Fourth Memorial. They are excited to mobilize the church to show the love of Christ throughout Spokane County. Ernest and Lois have been married since 1997 and enjoy fishing, gardening and spending time with their adult children and grandchildren.
